Unfortunately, the ironically-named festival was postponed because of the Coronavirus. The band announced in early 2020 that they would be headlining the Corona Capital festival in Guadalajara, Mexico, on May 17th. It cannot be denied, however, that their melodic eighth album 'When You See Yourself' (2021) has proved to be a roaring success since its release in March, flying to the Number 1 spot on the Official UK Albums Chart upon its debut. Their seventh album, ‘WALLS’ (2016), is their most polished and features some of the band’s best songs in a decade. This is the record where there’s something for everybody. On the other hand, fans of the band’s shift into arena rock are advised to head on over to ‘Only By The Night’ (2008), which entered the UK album chart at No.1.Īnd their third album, ‘Because Of The Times’ is where you’ll find Kings Of Leon making the transition from bar room rockers to global hitmakers. If it’s raw, hairy rock’n’roll then ‘Youth And Young Manhood’ (2003) and ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’ (2005) are the albums for you. We're sure this is set to skyrocket after the release of their eighth studio album 'When You See Yourself', which they released earlier this month (March 5th).

Discovering rock’n’roll after an initial flirtation with country music, they were joined by younger brother Jared and cousin Matthew and so Kings Of Leon were born. Home schooled by their mother, the brothers would largely live in their father’s purple Oldsmobile or camped in tents as he travelled from town to town to preach the gospel.įollowing their parents’ divorce and Ivan’s retirement from preaching, Nathan and Caleb moved to Nashville. The Followill brothers had spent the best part of their youth travelling across the Southern states with their father, Ivan, who was a Pentecostal preacher. The three Followill brothers – Caleb (vocals and guitar), Jared (bass and vocals) and Nathan (drums and vocals) – were joined by cousin Matthew on lead guitar to make up Kings Of Leon. Their early material, such as the ‘Holy Roller Novocaine’ EP – which featured the tracks ‘Molly’s Chambers’ and ‘California Waiting’ – found an immediate audience in the UK, who lapped up their rough and ready sound, and distinctly retro and hirsute styling. The first single, "Molly's Chambers" became a minor hit overseas.Initially regarded as the Southern states’ answer to The Strokes thanks to their blend of Dixieland influences and garage rock, Kings Of Leon formed in Nashville, Tennessee. "Holy Roller Novocaine" was also used in the films Stuck on You, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
The songs "Molly's Chambers", "Red Morning Light", and "Holy Roller Novocaine" were used in various video games, movies, and TV advertisements. All songs were again co-written by Petraglia, who also contributed guitar and co-produced the album with Ethan Johns. According to Jared, the title of the album was taken from their father's Bible. Their stakes rose when they were chosen by popular rock bands The Strokes and U2 to tour with them. Their debut album, Youth and Young Manhood, was a success, particularly outside the United States where they were dubbed one of the driving forces behind the so-called "new rock revolution" by the European press. All the songs were co-written by Angelo Petraglia. The EP also contained the B-side "Wicker Chair". Four of its five songs would later be released on Youth and Young Manhood, with the songs "California Waiting" and "Wasted Time" being remade. Kings of Leon's first release, The Holy Roller Novocaine EP came out in 2003. The group's name is derived from Nathan, Caleb and Jared's father and grandfather, both named Leon. They have released four full-length albums. The band's sound derives from southern rock, garage rock, hard rock and blues.
The band is made up of three brothers – Caleb Followill (lead singer/rhythm guitar), Nathan Followill (drums), Jared Followill (bass guitar/backup vocals/synthesizer) – and their first cousin Matthew Followill (lead guitar//backup vocals).
